About Me

I began practicing criminal defense in 1997, and I have experience in both federal and state/local courts. I have conducted jury and bench trials for a variety of criminal cases, including charges such as first-degree murder, sexual assault, aggravated assault, sexual conduct with a minor, stalking, burglary, prohibited possession of a weapon, possession of drugs for sale, driving while intoxicated, personal drug possession, simple assault, interfering with judicial proceedings, destruction of property, shoplifting, and theft.

I have also had the unique opportunity to work on criminal justice issues internationally, focusing primarily on Latin America. I have lived for over a decade in Spanish-speaking countries—including Bolivia, Colombia, Mexico, and Spain—and have collaborated with over a dozen countries throughout Latin America as an advisor on criminal justice issues. I have worked closely with the region's justice systems and institutions to make justice more accessible and effective, particularly for those charged with crimes. This experience gives me special insight into the perspectives, needs, and wants of clients from around the world. I am professionally fluent in Spanish and specialize in comparative criminal justice issues, particularly from Latin America.

I have trained over a thousand attorneys in Latin America in Spanish on trial advocacy skills and investigative techniques. I previously taught comparative law at the Tecnológico de Monterrey university in Mexico and published a Mexican law review article titled, "La Nueva Metodología Estratégica para Litigación bajo el Sistema Acusatorio: Teorías, Temas, y Planes de Acción para Juicios" (“The New Strategic Methodology for Litigation Under the Accusatorial System: Theories, Themes, and Trial Action Plans”). I have also presented legal topics before various organizations, including the American Bar Association, Asociación Nacional de Empresarios de Colombia (National Association of Businesspersons of Colombia), Association of American Chambers of Commerce in Latin America, The National Judicial College's Appellate Judges Education Institute, the Organization of American States, and the Woodrow Wilson Center.

I bring a unique skillset to my work, and would be pleased to put it to work for you. Please feel free to contact me to discuss potential representation.
